Aspartame is a low-calorie, intensive sweetener being approximately 180-200 times sweeter than sucrose in typical concentrations without the high energy value of sugar.
As a food additive, it has E number E951.

Aspartame is the methyl ester of the dipeptide of the natural amino acids L-aspartic acid and L-phenylalanine.
